The EIGHTH annual Pasadena Triathlon, Duathlon and Rockin Reggae 5k returns March 15, 2014.

This event is for everyone: whether you are a beginner, an experienced triathlete or somewhere in between. This event will provide a fun challenge and get you ready for the 2014 Summer Season of events! The triathlon and duathlon is sold out at 800 participants! Registration for the 5k is capped at 1000, so come on out and run the Bowl!

Pasadena Tri Club - TRIATHLON CLINIC & COURSE PREVIEW
When: February 23, 2014
Where: Rose Bowl Aquatic Center (behind center, near stage)
380 N Arroyo Blvd Pasadena, CA 91103
Time: 1:00pm - 3:00pm
Introduction to Triathlon: Join the Pasadena Triathlon Club for a fun and informative Pasadena Triathlon Course Preview and Transition Clinics. Both clinics will feature a preview of the Pasadena Triathlon bike and run courses via a 30 minute bike ride along with instruction and hands on practice with setting up your transition area and managing your transitions on race day. All Pasadena Triathlon participants are welcome to these free clinics. The clinics will meet on the grassy area immediately behind the Rose Bowl Aquatic Center/Tennis courts (look for the Pasadena Triathlon Club tent) and will last approximately 1 - 1.5 hours. Please bring your bike, helmet (required for the bike ride), running shoes and transition equipment. Questions - contact race@pasadenatriclub.com.

AWARDS / MEDALS

5k Fun Run is a FUN RUN - awards are given to overall winners.

Triathlon - all participants receive Finisher Medals. Top 3 in each age group receive awards.

Duathlon - all participants receive Finisher Medals. Top 3 in each age group receive awards.


What you can and cannot do - provided by USA Triathlon (yes these are the rules only for the triathlon).

Race Etiquette:
- Observe all race rules at all times.
- Don’t use a radio headset during the bike or run.
- Don’t place your bike and equipment on top of someone else’s in the transition area. Respect the athlete’s space and equipment.
- If you are a slower rider stay on the right side except when passing. Keep a straight line when riding. Only discard your water bottles and trash at an aid station. If you have to discard a bottle, make sure your throw it away from the other athletes.
- There is no littering on the race course.
- If you have mechanical problems, pull off the course on the right. Always let the rider ahead know you are passing on the left. And above all obey all safety rules on the course.
- Keep your pets at home if you are racing. Do you really need another distraction?
- The swim is always tough, but I’ve seen athletes actually push and crowd others away from their start positions. Don’t grab, push or pull others during the swim. It’s not combat swimming!
- During the run keep to the right except to pass. When you do pass someone or see them at the turnaround offer a word of encouragement.
- Be careful at the aid stations. This is usually the area where most of the items like gel packs and bottles are dropped and the pavement can be extremely slick. There is plenty to drink for everyone. Give each other room to drink and go.

After the race:
- When you cross the finish line, don’t be dramatic. You did a good job by finishing, now remove your chip or number, get a drink and move away from the finish chute without a lot of drama!
- Treat the finish line workers with respect. Your day is over they still have a lot to do.
- After you recover a bit, cheer on the other competitors and talk with the athletes. Pat all the youth on the back and offer words of encouragement when they finish!
- If you stick around for the awards then wait until all the awards are given out. I know it is tough at times but support the other competitors till the end.
- Good or bad race - “Be your own HERO!” after the race. Smile, hold your head high and take pride inside. You stepped up to the start line and you did it, you put yourself in the heat of competition and you finished even if the only person you were competing with was yourself!

Relay Team Rules:
All rules applying to individual competitors apply to relay competitors except where such rules conflict with specific relay rules.
- Relay teams must be composed of three athletes - one swimmer, one cyclist and one runner. Team members can be either the same gender or any combination of male/female. The minimum age of a participant is 16 years old.
- The relay team ‘chip transfer’ area must be within the marked Relay Team Area in the transition area. There will be a Relay Team Referee overseeing the ‘chip transfer’ of each team member. If a ‘chip transfer’ happens outside of the Relay Team Area, the team will not be included in the official results.
- Any relay team interfering with an individual competitor or any way placing an individual competitor at a competitive disadvantage will be disqualified.

RUN
- Relay runners will start in the relay team wave (see schedule above).

BIKE
- All relay bikes must be placed in the designated bike racks in the Transition Area. Team bikes must not be removed from the designated bike rack until AFTER the timing chip has been passed onto the team cyclist.
- After receiving the timing chip the cyclist must WALK their bikes through the transition area to the MOUNT LINE. At this time cyclists may mount their bike and depart on the 15k bike.
- Upon completion of the 15k bike and arrival at the Transition Area, cyclists must dismount at the DISMOUNT LINE and WALK their bike back to the designated bike rack. Once the cyclist has entered the marked Team Relay Area, they may hand off the timing chip to the swimmer. Once the swimmer has attached the timing chip, he/she may depart to the swim course. Cyclists must re-rack their bike on the designated bike rack.

RUN
- Relay swimmers must turn in their timing chip at the designated timing table behind the finish line immediate after crossing the finish line. Any team failing to turn in its timing chip will not be considered an official finisher


What the heck is a reverse triathlon?

Traditionally, triathlons are run in the order of swim/bike/run. But in many locations the race is reversed if there is only a pool available. So at this event it's a run/bike/swim.

No, you don't need to wear a wetsuit, the pool temperature will be a nice 70+ degrees.

Yes, you need to wear a helmet on the bike. You should have the helmet on before you get on the bike.

Yes, you need to be bodymarked so we get accurate times.

Yes, you can wear your race number in the pool.

Goggles, you can wear them if you like, but they are not required.

Yes, you must have fun if you are doing this race. :)

USAT

USA Triathlon is the sanctioning authority for more than 2,000 diverse events, ranging from grassroots to high-profile races nationwide. The organization works to create interest and participation in a variety of programs, including camps, clinics, races and educational opportunities. USA Triathlon's 125,000-strong membership is comprised of athletes of all ages, coaches, officials, parents and fans striving to strengthen multisport. On the elite level, USA Triathlon is responsible for the selection and training of teams to represent the United States in international competition, including the world championships, Pan Am Games and Olympic Games.

USAT Jr The Southwest Region of USAT is sponsoring a series of developmental sprint races to encourage youth (13-15) and junior (16-19) athletes to participate in triathlons. Ages are determined by USAT rules (age as of Dec 31, 2011). The Southwest region will have a point series with updated divisional rankings throughout the year. Each event winner will receive an award provided by the region, as well as ranking points. The last event of the season will crown the series champion in the youth (13-15) and the junior (16-19) age catagories. A championship award will be given to the first place female youth and junior and the first place male youth and junior athlete. Generic Events does not authorize refunds at any time.

Race Conduct - We will not tolerate any inappropriate behavior to any of our volunteers or staff. If you have a complaint please direct these to Brennan Lindner at info@genericevents.com. Failure to follow this guideline will result in disqualification from the event and possibly being banned from future events. Seriously. We're all out here for some fun, so let's have some!

Natural Disaster Policy - If an Act of God/Terrorism/Community Disaster occurs, what happens?
1. We make decisions based on safety first.
2. The municipality will also make a decision.
3. Race courses and race date will be altered as seen fit by race management and the City of Pasadena.
4. Athletes in a postponed race will be transferred to the rescheduled date at no charge.
5. Generic Events cannot accept the risk of a disaster for everyone. Each athlete needs to accept the risk of his or her entry fee. There will be NO REFUNDS. The money you paid is spent developing that race.

Why? We do not save any money if the race is postponed or you choose not run. We have paid for every supply and service needed for that race. We pay for all race supplies or services associated with that race, regardless of the outcome. These include paying for permits, our staff, offices, administration costs all year. It's not ideal, and nobody likes wasting money, but we unfortunately cannot predict what will happen on race day.

Pitch in and help put on a GREAT event!

Volunteers are integral and crucial elements in making our events viable. Volunteer tasks include, among others: providing water and food, keeping runners on course, cheering runners on, keeping spirits up and making the race safer for everyone! We guarantee a great time and the time spent will be worthwhile.

You don't have to be a triathlete or runner volunteer at the event. If you have simple words of encouragement and are able to help direct runners or hand out water, you are valuable to us!

In exchange you'll get goodies (T-Shirts/Goody Bag/Swag) and refreshments, and more importantly, you will be rewarded with the pride in knowing you helped to make the event happen, and that everyone finished because of the help you offered.
